Mon. Dec. 5: At 8:25 am on Summit Avenue, Bronxville DPW reported that a small SUV, possibly a gray Jeep Compass, struck the side of the leaf box trailer, causing minor damage, and then fled the scene without stopping. he incident is being investigated.
Wed. Dec. 7: At 12:05 pm on Crampton Road, a resident reported that a male claiming to work for a cable company knocked on his door and requested to inspect the phone lines in the residence. The homeowner turned the man away because he could not provide work identification. The astute resident also took a picture of the subject's vehicle as he left. Police officers were able to identify the male as a legitimate employee of Precision Interconnect soliciting sales in the area. No crime was committed.
Fri. Dec. 9: At 10:30 am on Greenfield Avenue, a resident reported a suspicious male sitting in a vehicle on the street for an extended period of time. Police officers interviewed the male, who was processing an insurance claim in the area.
Mon. Dec. 12: At midnight, an apparent prank email was disseminated at a Bronxville resident's college, advertising a fictitious party to be held at the resident's local residence. The motives for the email are unknown at this time. The incident is being investigated.
Mon. Dec. 12: At 7:17 pm on Dusenberry Road, a resident reported that a fraudulent Sprint cell phone account had been opened in his name, amassing a bill of $5,002. The incident is being investigated.
Tues. Dec. 13: At 6:50 pm on Northway Road, a resident reported that an unknown male was yelling and knocking at her door. Officers and the Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps rendered aid to the male, who was having a diabetic episode.
Fri. Dec. 16: At 2:03 pm, a 53-year-old female resident reported that an unknown male driving a white Buick pulled up next to her on the corner of Pondfield Road and Midland Avenue and attempted to get her attention by stating, "Hello, you are so pretty." After being ignored, the male, who was described as Caucasian with short dark hair and a high forehead, left the area. No crime was committed.
Fri. Dec. 16: At 11:30 pm at Häagen-Dazs, the front window to the ice cream shop was broken during a dispute between two juveniles. The juveniles were identified with surveillance video captured by village cameras installed at the intersection. The offending juvenile's mother has agreed to pay restitution to Häagen-Dazs for the broken window.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
