Sunday, Feb. 19, 12:32 pm: A homeowner on Avon Road reported that he had observed an unknown male taking photographs of his residence from the street. No crime was reported. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the man.
Monday, Feb. 20, 8:27 am: On Woodland Avenue, Police Officer Paul Cavallo charged a 44-year-old man from Peekskill with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree and Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended Registration (both misdemeanors). Police Officer Cavallo was alerted by his patrol car's onboard license plate reader that the registration for the man’s 2011 Hyundai Sonata was suspended for an insurance lapse. Subsequent inquiries revealed that his license was also suspended. The Hyundai was impounded, and the man was processed on scene and released pending his next court appearance.
Monday, Feb. 20, 12:40 pm: It was reported that a residence on Lee Place listed for sale was apparently used for a drinking party overnight. The garage was entered and the outside hot tub was used. The incident is being investigated with possible charges pending.
Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1:00 pm: On Midland Avenue, a 34-year-old man from the Bronx was charged with Forgery in the Second Degree (a class D felony) after it was discovered that he had forged official documents obtaining a Bronxville address to defraud his insurance company. Cook was processed and released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance.
Friday, Feb. 24: On Kensington Road a man reported that he had been receiving threatening emails. The incident is being investigated.
Saturday, Feb. 25, 12:51 pm: A homeowner on Studio Lane reported that her 2017 Mercedes Benz and her 2011 Mercedes Benz were both entered overnight. Both vehicles were unlocked and the alarms were not armed. The only items missing were two water bottles.
Saturday, Feb. 25, 11:16 pm: An anonymous caller reported a loud group in the driveway of a residence on Elm Rock Road. Police Officers responded and spoke to the homeowner, who volunteered to keep the noise level down. No crime was committed.
Sunday, Feb. 26, 9:20 am: A homeowner on Tanglewylde Avenue reported that her 2017 Lexus was entered overnight. There were no signs of forced entry and no items were reported missing, although the vehicle was rummaged through.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
