Nov. 29, 2017: The entries below are selections from the Bronxville Police blotter.
Monday, November 13, 12:59 am, Midland Avenue: A 26-year-old man of Eastchester was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree after he was stopped for a headlight violation. He was processed and released on scene pending his next court appearance. The 2008 BMW he was operating was impounded.
Wednesday, November 15, 11:40 am, Hamilton Avenue: A 25-year-old man of the Bronx was arrested after he was confronted by police at the door of a residence posing as a FedEx employee. He was dressed in a FedEx hat and jacket and was allegedly attempting to steal a package valued at approximately $1,800. He was charged with Attempted Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree and Criminal Impersonation in the 2nd Degree. He was released after posting $500 cash bail. He is due back in Bronxville Court on December 6 at 6:00 pm.
Wednesday, November 15: A 17-year-old male was charged with Exposure of a Person after an investigation into a complaint that he had exposed himself to a passerby while sitting in a vehicle.
Friday, November 17, 1:30 pm, Palmer Avenue: A 20-year-old man of Mount Vernon was charged with Public Lewdness after a report that he had exposed himself to a woman on the sidewalk on November 15 at 6:15 am. Detectives utilized village surveillance cameras to capture the incident, and he was identified and located. He was released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance on December 6 at 6:00 pm.
Saturday, November 18, 10:17 pm, Park Place: Police assisted EVAC with the transport of an intoxicated female to NYP Lawrence Hospital. The woman was physically and verbally combative and had to be restrained by officers during transport. Officers stood by at the hospital until the situation was quelled.
Sunday, November 19, 1:33 am, White Plains Road: At 56-year-old male driver struck a utility pole with his 2015 Nissan Rouge while traveling southbound on White Plains Road. The driver was injured and unable to submit to a blood alcohol content test on scene. Police accompanied the ambulance to Jacobi Hospital, where it was determined that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
Monday, November 20, 12:41 am: Two 16-year-old males were observed by Sergeant William Carroll trespassing on a property. Both males were charged with Trespassing, one of which was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. They were released on their own recognizance and ordered to appear before the Bronxville Justice Court on December 6 at 6:00 pm.
Wednesday, November 22, 12:13 pm, Lookout Avenue: A homeowner reported that an unknown male had come to his door and claimed to be a repossession agent looking to take his car because of an overdue balance. When challenged about the validity of his claim, the unknown subject left the area. The incident is being investigated.
Wednesday, November 22, 11:15 pm, Paxton Avenue: A 76-year-old man of Yonkers was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired. He was interviewed at a DWI checkpoint and the officer observed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his vehicle. He submitted to a breathalyzer test on scene and registered .117%. He was taken to headquarters, where he later registered a blood alcohol content level of .07%. He was released to a family member pending his next court appearance.
Wednesday, November 22, 11:33 pm, Gramatan Avenue: A 71-year-old man of New Rochelle was charged with DWI after he was interviewed at a checkpoint and failed a series of sobriety tests. He submitted to a breathalyzer test on scene and registered .102%. He was transported to headquarters, where he later registered a blood alcohol content level of .08%. He was released to a family member pending his next court appearance.
Friday, November 24, 12:30 pm, Pondfield Road (Bronxville Running Company)(Value Drugs): Police officers responded to a 911 call from the Running Company reporting that a male had just stolen several items and that he had fled toward Kraft Avenue. The suspect was apprehended by Detective Sergeant Anderson. He was still in possession of the $530 worth of clothes stolen from the Running Company. He was also recognized as one suspect in a larceny at Value Drugs on November 23, the day before. Police Officer LauraLee Ulrich canvassed the area and apprehended the second suspect from the November 23 crime on the southbound MTA platform attempting to flee the scene via train. The second suspect was identified as a 47-year-old man of Yonkers. While conducting a search incident to lawful arrest, the second suspect was found to be in possession of two hypodermic needles. For their roles in the November 23 crime at Value Drugs, both men were charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree for stealing items with a total value of over $1,000. The second suspect was also charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. The first suspect was charged with Petit Larceny for stealing the clothing from the Running Company on November 24. Both men were arraigned by Judge George Mayer and remanded to Westchester County Jail pending their next court appearance on December 6 at 6:00 pm.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
