Oct. 2, 2019: The following entries are from the Bronxville police blotter.
September 18, 2019, 9:45 am, Chestnut Avenue: A 31-year-old man of the Bronx was charged with misdemeanor Suspended Registration after he was stopped for Following Too Closely and an inquiry revealed that the registration to the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder he was operating was suspended due to Violation of Toll Collection. The vehicle was impounded, the man was processed on scene and released pending his next court appearance.
September 18, 2019, 11:50 am, Morange Square: A witness called Police to report that a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants had just stolen a bicycle from the bike rack in Morange Square. Officers canvassed the area and apprehended the suspect attempting to flee on the bicycle. The 36-year-old man was charged with Petit Larceny and the bicycle was recovered. The man was arraigned by Judge George Mayor and remanded to Westchester County Jail after failing to pay $2,500.00 bail
September 20, 2019, 1:38 pm, Midland Avenue: A 34-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and transported to Lawrence Hospital for pain to his right leg. The vehicle fled the scene, but a witness was able to provide the license plate number. The 83-year-old driver of Bronxville was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an auto accident with injuries (class A misdemeanor). The man was released on his own recognizance pending his next court appearance.
September 21, 2019, 11:00 pm: Officers were able to assist in quelling a verbal argument between family members. No crime was committed, and a domestic incident report was completed.
September 22, 2019,10:19 am, White Plains Road: A resident reported that an unknown cellular account was opened without the resident's approval. The incident is being investigated.
September 23, 2019, 12:46 pm, Parkway Road: An anonymous female gave a found bank card to an officer. Upon calling the banking institution, police were advised that the card would automatically be closed and the owner would be contacted by the bank.
September 24, 2019, 10:05 am, Lawrence Hospital: A resident of Mamaroneck reported that his wallet was missing and that it was last seen when he checked into the hospital. The wallet contained credit cards, personal identification, and cash.
September 25, 2019, 8:15 am, Topps Bakery, Pondfield Road: An employee called 911 to report that a customer was causing a disturbance insulting another customer and employees. The customer was asked to leave and complied. No further Police action was warranted.
September 26, 2019, 6:52 pm, Police Headquarters: Westchester County Department of Public Safety reported that they had a 30-year-old man of Yonkers in custody on an active Bronxville Justice Court Bench Warrant. The man was transported to Bronxville Headquarters where he was processed and released on his own recognizance at arraignment by Judge Primps.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
