Bronxville Board of Education Awards Tenure to Three

By Carol P. Bartold

Apr. 27, 2016: By a unanimous vote, the Bronxville Board of Education awarded tenure to high school Principal Ann Meyer, middle school mathematics teacher Jennifer Oliveri, and elementary school teacher Kathryn Westerheim at the board's April 19 meeting.

"These three individuals have demonstrated in their work the capacity to inspire others," Superintendent Dr. David Quattrone said in announcing the candidates. "They have shown that they have a perspective that goes beyond their immediate job descriptions, reaching out to other people in their schools or the district to make sure that they’re creating a whole greater than the sum of its parts."

Ann Meyer assumed her duties as Bronxville High School principal on July 1, 2013. After teaching in the Bronxville High School science department from 2006 through 2012, Meyer became assistant principal at Edgemont Junior/Senior High School. She holds a degree with honors in biological chemistry from Wellesley College and master's degrees from Harvard University and Bank Street College.

Dr. Rachel Kelley, assistant superintendent for human resources and pupil services, congratulated Meyer for being “at the forefront of instilling the [Bronxville] Promise … and impressing upon your teachers the importance of the values we’re instilling in our students.”

Middle school mathematics and algebra teacher Jennifer Oliveri joined the Bronxville Middle School faculty in 2014. She taught mathematics and algebra I in the Pawling Central School District from 2008 through the 2013-2014 school year. She earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and mathematics education from the University of Delaware, and a master of arts degree in school counseling from Manhattan College. Oliveri has coached both girls’ field hockey and lacrosse.

“Jennifer Oliveri created a new course for our eighth-graders in terms of logic, in addition to teaching multiple levels of math,” said Dr. Kelly. “It has really inspired the students, not only in terms of their mastery of content, but also instilling a love for mathematics.”

Kathryn Westerheim came to Bronxville Elementary School in 2013 after teaching kindergarten and first grade for two years in New York City. She holds an undergraduate degree in early childhood education from Texas A&M University.

“It’s unbelievable to see how Kathryn can get first graders to self-reflect and to really understand how they are as learners,” Dr. Kelly said.

Board President Denise Tormey noted that the board, along with Dr. Quattrone, was involved in a very thorough process of evaluating the candidates through their probationary periods.

All tenure appointments take effect September 1, 2016.
