Search for New Bronxville School Superintendent Moves Forward; Seven Specifications Sought

alt

By Carol P. Bartold

Nov. 23, 2016: The Bronxville Board of Education, at its regular meeting on November 17, advanced the search for a new Bronxville School superintendent by adopting a set of seven specifications the district seeks in applicants for the position. The new superintendent will replace Dr. David Quattrone, who will retire at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year

Based on data collected by consultants School Leadership LLC through face-to-face meetings with several constituencies within the school as well as in the community-at-large, and an online survey, the ideal candidate for superintendent will:

  • Be an experienced leader, passionate about the principles of The Bronxville Promise, who embraces and shares the joy of lifelong learning.

  • Be able to articulate a forward-thinking vision about how curriculum practices and assessment coalesce to improve student learning and understand how multiple forms of technology support that vision.

  • Be knowledgeable about school finance and taxation issues and be willing to engage staff, parents, and community members in leveraging resources and developing creative avenues for teaching. Communicate effectively in person and through all platforms and be accessible to, honest with, and transparent with the school and the Bronxville community.

  • Be an inspirational leader who honors the centrality of students by seeking their voice and by hiring, retaining, and supporting excellent teachers and administrators.

  • Be able to create a culture of trust, collaboration, integrity, teamwork, and positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and the broader school community.

  • Be someone who will relish the challenge and fun of leading a small, nationally recognized school district that combines high expectations and a highly engaged community, high-achieving students, and a high-performing staff to an even more impressive level of excellence.

"We believe we have landed in a good place with these specifications," said board of education chair Jeff Rohr. "We thank everyone who participated." He added that the consultants have done an outstanding job for the district.

Dr. Martin Brooks, consultant with School Leadership LLC, indicated that the firm expects that the board of education will appoint the new superintendent in March or April of 2017. Leading up to that, the firm will advertise the position in The New York Times in early December of 2016 and again in early to mid-January of 2017. Ads will also appear on various websites, such as those for the National Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of School Superintendents.

Brooks stated that, after the January 31 application deadline, School Leadership LLC consultants will screen candidates and probably meet with 15 to 20 strong applicants.

In February and early March, the consultants will forward their top recommendations to the board of education and the board will have meetings with those candidates.
