Feb. 14, 2018:  Six Bronxville High School students, seniors Mimi Buendia, Sally ReynoldsKiki Shinsato, Martha Thomas, and Shenglin Zhang, and freshman Annabelle Krause earned top honors at the prestigious Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. They were each recognized for their artwork, which stood out among entries from thousands of students nationwide.

Buendia won a Silver Key award for her graphite Self-Portrait drawing and Honorable Mention for her pastel Car Reflection painting. Reynolds earned two Silver Key awards for her charcoal Hands on Guitar and graphite Self-Portrait drawings. Shinsato’s portfolio, which consisted of eight digital photography works on the theme of "God Moments," earned her a Silver Key award. Thomas received a Gold Key award for her mixed-media piece San Andres, and Zhang earned Honorable Mention for his watercolor painting Bicycle. Krause received a Silver Key award for her digital photography piece.

“Each of these students is dedicated to creating meaningful artwork with technical skill in a variety of media,” art teacher Courtney Alan said. “The works chosen for these awards are evidence of their hard work and growth as artists. Each piece demonstrates a unique investigation of a topic that engages the viewer.”

Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, the awards program identifies students with exceptional artistic and literary talents.
