Summer Seminar for Writers at Sarah Lawrence June 21 to 26 Features Esteemed Authors and Free Evening Readings

"This is a chance to study writing with someone who is active and engaged professionally," said seminar director Jeffrey McDaniel, poetry faculty member at Sarah Lawrence. "Taking a poetry class with a Pulitzer Prize winner is like going to basketball camp with Phil Jackson."
The week-long seminar includes daily workshops in participants' selected genres--poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction; readings, craft talks, and generative sessions; and one-on-one faculty conferences.
The summer seminar is run by the college's renowned graduate writing program and is open to aspiring and seasoned writers alike. Evening readings by participating authors, which are free and open to the public, take place daily. For information about the readings, please call 914-395-2412.
The Summer Seminar for Writers was co-founded in 1993 by poet and Kingsley Tufts Award winner Thomas Lux, who continues his involvement as a member of the faculty and continues on the roster of guest writers, and the late poet Jane Cooper. In addition to 2015 Pulitzer Prize winner for poetry Gregory Pardlo, teaching faculty include New York State Poet Laureate Marie Howe, National Book Award winner Terrance Hayes, PEN/Faulkner finalist Jenny Offill, National Book Award finalists Emily St. John Mandel and Monica Youn, finalist for the British Book Award Mark Slouka, New York Times best-selling author Emma Straub, Adelle Waldman, named to the New Yorker's best of 2013 list, NEA Fellow Jeffrey McDaniel, American poetry scholar Neil Arditi, Best American Fantasy writer David Hollander, and Juniper Prize winner Diane Seuss.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
