Peter Royal, Bronxville Drama Teacher, to Teach Two Courses at the Bronxville Adult School this Spring

By Mary Massa, Vice Chair, Board of Trustees, Bronxville Adult School

Mar. 15, 2017:  Much-loved Bronxville drama teacher and award-winning director Peter Royal will teach two courses at the Bronxville Adult School this spring.

Beginning on March 29, Peter Royal's four-part course Public Speaking Made Simple will address methods to prepare for occasions when one needs to address a crowd. Whether at business meetings, weddings, or graduations, many of us would like to feel more comfortable giving a speech or a toast or just saying a few words to family and friends.

This course will teach techniques to help us overcome fears associated with public speaking so that we can speak with confidence and maybe even enjoy the moment. Peter believes there are "easy, obvious tricks to make speaking in public less intimidating." He'll pass those tips along in his course

Students will get a chance to practice what they learn during class sessions.

The Public Speaking Made Simple classes will be held at The Bronxville School from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on four Wednesdays, March 29 and April 5, 19, and 26.

In his second four-class course, beginning on May 3, Peter will spotlight playwright Anton Chekov and explore his groundbreaking contributions to playwriting. Peter's favorite play is Chekov's Three Sisters, a play he saw performed as teenager. He "fell in love with Chekov and the theater because of that play." The class will study Three Sisters as well as the first of Chekov's four major plays, The Seagull.

Chekov had a huge influence on 20th-century playwrights and is considered by many to be second only to Shakespeare in greatness as a writer. Peter's in-depth knowledge, insights, and anecdotes will make Chekov's masterworks come to life as the class reads the plays and even stages a few scenes.

The Chekov classes will be held on four consecutive Wednesdays from May 3 to May 24 at The Bronxville School from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
