Nov. 9, 2016: The field hockey team celebrated its regional championship on Saturday after defeating Section 9's Rondout Valley, 2-0. The Broncos did all of their scoring in the first half, with goals by Kat Ungvary and Ellie Walsh, and the Bronco defense went to work in the second half to hold the Ganders scoreless. After halftime, Rondout played aggressively and had many corner opportunities but was just unable to score.
The Rondout goalie, Courtney Smith, was kept busy by the Bronco offense and had seventeen saves. On Bronxville's side, goalie Katie Gordon had one save and midfielder Walsh had two.
The Broncos, who have won the Class C Sectional Championship three years in a row, lost in regionals last year to a strong Whitney Point team. The four Class C teams heading to states (Bronxville, Cazenovia, Whitney Point, and Carle Place) have all appeared in the state semifinals at least once in the last two years, with Whitney Point winning in 2014 and 2015.
The state semifinals will take place on Saturday at Maine Endwell High School at 4:00 pm. The Broncos will play Section 3'' Cazenovia in the semifinals.
If they advance, they will face the winner of Section 4's Whitney Point/Section 11's Carle Place on Sunday at 3:00 pm.
Go Broncos.
