The Big Green Bus Stops in Bronxville; Matt Knight, BHS Class of 2007, a Director

July 13, 2011: On Sunday, June 27, a big green bus known as "The Big Green Bus" stopped in Bronxville a week into its 12,000-mile journey across the country. Its objective: to promote sustainability and environmentalism. In just 11 weeks, the bus will have traveled through 31 states and along both coasts before returning to its home at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
One of the directors of The Big Green Bus project is Matt Knight, BHS Class of 2007 and recent Dartmouth graduate in June 2011.
During its trip, The Big Green Bus serves as a classroom on wheels. The bus is outfitted with an unprecedented number of sensors and tools designed to help understand and cultivate information on the inner workings of the bus. The crew (13 in all) is prepared to educate, learn, and spread its message.
Donated by Greyhound, the bus was converted to run on waste vegetable oil instead of gas and to serve as an educational vehicle. While in Bronxville, the crew did some maintenance work on the bus and prepared for events in Brooklyn, New Jersey, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
The Big Green Bus has been featured by Good Morning America, MTV, CNN, Newsweek, NPR, USA Today, and numerous local newspapers. These media outlets allow The Big Green Bus to reach a wider audience and increase the visibility of its message.
This year's tour is made possible by donations from the following organizations: Waste Management, Greyhound, SunPower Corporation, Caesars Entertainment, Anchor QEA, EcoDirect, GreenSmart, Honest Tea, Cabot Creamery Cooperative, Annie's Homegrown, Boloco, Clif Bar, Red Bull, Playback Clothing, L.L.Bean, Six South St Hotel, IceStone, Home Depot, Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering, Galvin Foundation, ClassWatch, and other generous contributors.
