May 2, 2018: The entries below are selections from the Bronxville police blotter.

Tuesday, April 24, 11:22 am, Studio Arcade: A business owner reported a suspicious person in the building. Officers located and interviewed the male, who was an employee of another business in the building. No crime was committed.

Tuesday, April 24, 4:03 pm, White Plains Road: There was a two-vehicle accident; there were no injuries, and an information exchange was completed.

Tuesday, April 24, 8:11 pm, Lawrence Hospital: Officers responded to a 911 call from hospital staff regarding a disgruntled family member of a patient. The family member was interviewed at police headquarters on his own accord and posed no threat to public safety. No crime was committed.

Wednesday, April 25, 5:03 pm, Midland Avenue, Bronxville School: A silver Aspen Novara mountain bike valued at $399 was stolen from the school bike rack. The incident is being investigated.

Thursday, April 26, 9:15 pm, Acme Parking Lot, Cedar Street: Officers responded to a complaint of a large group of youths gathering. The group was dispersed.

Friday, April 27, 7:41 am, Paxton Avenue: A business owner reported that someone had been dumping their garbage in his dumpster. The responding officer was able to identify the individual after discovering a piece of mail in his refuse. The owner wanted the individual to be contacted and ordered to cease and desist.

Friday, April 27, 9:21 am, Sagamore Road:  An immobilization device (boot) was affixed to a vehicle rendering it inoperable until the owner satisfied their outstanding fines. The fines in the amount of $290 were satisfied at 11:47 am and the boot was removed.

Saturday, April 28, 11:20 am:  Officers responded to a call of a domestic incident. An individual was arrested and arraigned in Tuckahoe Court.

Sunday, April 29, 6:14 pm, Midland Avenue: A passenger involved in a motor vehicle stop for traffic violations displayed what appeared to be a police shield to Bronxville officers. Upon further inspection, the shield was deemed to be property of the New York State Police PBA and possibly fraudulent. The NYSP were notified and took possession of the item for further investigation.

Monday, April 30, 1:45 am, Concordia Place: A resident reported a noise complaint of a group gathering. The group left the area before officers arrived.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
