May 9, 2018: The entries below are selections from the Bronxville police blotter.

Tuesday, May 1, 11:20 am, Pondfield Road: A resident reported that he had parked his vehicle at 11:00 am and returned at 11:15 am to find that the catalytic converter had been removed from his 2002 Ford Econoline Van.

Wednesday, May 2, 5:40 pm, Pondfield Road: There was a two-vehicle accident. There were no injuries, and an information exchange was completed by the responding officer.

Wednesday, May 2, 6:43 pm, Pondfield Road: A pedestrian reported a verbal dispute between himself and a motorist. The pedestrian stated that he had to throw a set of keys at the moving vehicle to get the driver’s attention before he was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle owner left the scene of his own accord before officers arrival.

Thursday, May 3, 3:08 am, Greenfield Avenue:  While performing routine patrol, Officer Lewis reported observing a suspicious male in a driveway. The male ran from the area before he could be questioned about his validity. Officers canvassed the area yielding negative results. No crimes were reported in the area.

Thursday, May 3, 1:53 pm, Morange Square: A resident reported that her son’s Trek FX3 mountain bike valued at $790 had been cut from the bike rack and stolen. The incident is being investigated.

Friday, May 4, 11:22 pm, Meadow Avenue: A boot was affixed to a 2005 Volvo rendering it inoperable due to $390 in outstanding parking fines. The boot will be removed when the fines are satisfied.

Saturday, May 5, 1:26 pm, Park Avenue: A resident reported that an unknown person drilled a hole in her yard and the curb damaging her sprinkler system. The incident is being investigated.

Monday, May 7, 10:33 am, Elm Rock Road: Officers responded to an anonymous report of an open door. An appraiser who was working on the scene was interviewed. No crime was committed.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
