Monday April 20, 2020 Message From The Mayor & Police Chief: Please Wear Face Coverings and Support Local Merchants

By Staff
Apr. 20, 2020: Below is a summary of a voice message sent by Bronxville Chief of Police, Christopher Satriale, and Mayor Mary Marvin on April 20, 2020, at 4:30 PM.
Chief Satriale reported that there were 478 deaths related to COVID-19 in New York State yesterday. He noted that it's a high number, but that the number of daily deaths continues to decrease.
The Chief also stated that antibody testing is beginning today in New York State. He explained that it's "a random selection of people for antibody testing" and that the goal of the testing is to try to determine the percentage of people within the State who may have been infected and self-resolved without symptoms.
Chief Satriale also said that you can find the most accurate information about COVID-19 on the CDC website and on the New York State Department of Health website.
A recent Executive Order from Governor Cuomo requires people to wear face coverings "when in a public place and unable to maintain, or when not maintaining, social distance." The Chief said that many people in the village are not wearing face coverings. This is troubling because the Bronxville business district is dense, and the sidewalks are narrow. As a result, as the Chief said, "It is nearly impossible for you to comply with social distancing." The Chief and the Mayor are urging people to wear face coverings if they are in the business district.
The Chief also asked people to call the police desk if they see a group congregating or if they see something out of the ordinary. 914-337-0500.
Mayor Marvin said that her focus right now is to have a vibrant village when this is ended. "Our merchants need us now more than ever," said Marvin. They extend their thanks for what you have done already. Marvin noted that those suffering the most are the non-food businesses. They are available to take phone messages and emails. They can do curbside pickup or ship a gift.
Mayor Marvin also said that the hospital workers appreciate the messages from young people throughout the village in windows and on lawns.
