Mr. Timothy Nelson, Middle School Guidance Counselor
Ms. Krystle Tawil, Grade 3 Teacher
Dr. Rachel Kelly noted that Megan Figueroa, who has been at the School for many years, was named the School’s new Literacy Coach. Kelly also spoke about various other personnel matters.
Dan Carlin, Assistant Superintendent for Business, spoke about the School’s proposed 2026-27 Budget. The School is about one month away from the May 19th Budget referendum, in which the community votes on the Budget and other matters. Carlin noted that there will be a hearing on the Budget in early May. Carlin then pointed out a few items related to the Budget, including the following:
1. He noted that the School has come in under the Tax Levy Cap for the past 14 years, which has saved taxpayers significant dollars.
2. He further noted that the School’s proposed budget for 2027-28 is $57.6 million, which will result in a tax levy increase of 4.8%. He said that this Budget is $1.38 million over the tax cap.
Carlin said that the primary reason for the Budget increase in the coming year is the impact of inflation over the past years, and continuing in the coming year, yet the School has maintained a tight budget. For example, the CPI rose 18-20% over the past four years, yet the School managed to hold budget increases to 7-8%.
Carlin further said that the Board had workshops this fall in which it reviewed the impact of potential cuts to get to the tax cap, such as the following:
*fewer electives
Carlin further noted that the tax levy has risen with enrollment.
Current Year Financials
Carlin said that there is “good news” about the current year. He noted that the projection for the surplus for the current year has “continued to climb” and is expected to be around $1.3 million, with $1.2 million “from revenue alone.” This surplus will help the school maintain its bond rating for the construction project this summer and expected field replacement over the next few years.
The Board then approved the following “action items.”
-Receipt of Bronxville School Foundations Grants of around $118k
-Receipt of a donation of science supplies of around $15k
-Costs related to an individual who will replace a teacher on leave.
Carlin spoke about various bids for HVAC, electric, and general contracts that were successful.
The Board approved a 2027 High School trip to Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona.
Finally, Carlin noted that the Board and leadership team have been looking at ways to try to curb health insurance costs. Among other things, the School will be looking at the healthcare plans of other districts to review options.
