Sep. 28, 2016: Dr. Alberto L. Garcia, theologian and author, will speak at Concordia College on Tuesday, October 11, at 7:30 pm. The talk, titled "A Latino Perspective on the Reformation of the Church," is the focus of his recently published book, Our 95 Theses: A Look at the Reformation after 500 Years.
Dr. Garcia immigrated to the United States from Cuba in his youth. Raised Roman Catholic and now an ordained Lutheran Minister, he uses his diverse background to shape his work.
He is the author of twelve books and over 100 articles in theological journals and encyclopedias. He recently co-authored Wittenberg Meets the World: Re-Imagining the Reformation at the Margins with Concordia College's new president, Rev. John A. Nunes, PhD.
"Dr. Garcia is driven by his passion for a better understanding of each other in today's culturally shrinking world. The Reformation of the Church, begun 500 years ago, is a prime example," said President Nunes. "We have an opportunity to understand the various cultural ways that this historical movement has been appropriated. Dr. Garcia's brilliant mind brims with a creative style for expressing ideas so that his audience can both understand and feel his message. You won't want to miss him as he shares with our students, staff, faculty, and the community."
Dr. Garcia currently serves as an adjunct professor of systematic and historical theology at the Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. He holds advanced degrees from Concordia Theological Seminary (MDiv) and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (ThM and PhD). Dr. Garcia is professor emeritus of theology at Concordia University Wisconsin, where he taught for twenty-one years.
The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow Dr. Garcia's talk and audience Q&A session.
